A Cloud of Witnesses presents results from an international symposium on these topics. Organized by the WCC Faith and Order Commission and the Monastery of Bose in Italy, the conference featured contributions by dozens of theologians from a large spectrum of confessional and regional backgrounds.

Case studies review historic acts of Christian witness while recognizing obstacles that impede common commemoration of particular persons and events. Authors examine the churches' varying approaches to martyrdom, public witness and spiritual reflection. In addition to recent ecumenical thinking on these topics, the book includes liturgical material that may provide patterns for services of prayer and shared remembrance.
